How much does it cost to replace existing home air conditioner with an energy star unit?

I live in Florida and have a two story townhouse (approx 1100 sq ft). My current a/c is 15 years old and looks like it ‘s on it’s last leg. How much would it cost to replace the unit to an energy star one (15 seers right?). I hear 3k for a 13 seer but I imagine it’s more to get the tax credit.

Go to hvacopcost.com this will give you an idea how much you will save by going to the higher efficiency unit. Then factor in the bottom line tax credit of $1500 (which can be taken over 3 years) and you will find that it makes a lot of sense to get the higher efficiency model. Plus, if you sell you home it is a good feature to sell on. I do not foresee energy prices dropping and so it makes so much sense to get higher efficiency units.
