polish the feed ramp on a 1911?
have you ever done this yourself? i would like to do it because of some feed issues, i know not to change the angle or take off any material, but i can see the machining marks which are perpendicular to the direction of feed.
i have 60 and 80 micron grit polishing paper, scotchbrite and a brass wirewheel for a dremel tool…. i also have heavier grit paper but i don’t want to use it in fear of removing too much material.
any tips, hints, or secrets of the trade would be greatly appreciated!
any horror stories too, so i know what NOT to do.
i also have a 500 grit paper
and i’m talking about the ramp that’s part of the frame, not the barrel
The only way I would use a Dremel to polish a feed ramp on a 1911 would be if I used a felt bob and abrasive paste. Unless you have nerves and muscles of steel the chance of the Dremel slipping and taking a notch or making a divet in chamber or the slide rails is too great to learn how to do it the hard way. I also use half round and round fine stones to polish the factory mill marks out of pistols.
