What does the yellow sign on a gas pump stand for?
I know its something about octane but I’m not sure what.
The number on the yellow sign indicates octane rating. Don’t let anyone tell you the higher the number the more powerful the gas is. The ratings rate the fuel’s ability to resist ‘predetonation’ or ‘pinging’. That’s when the fuel ignites before it is supposed to. If your vehicle runs good on the lower octane fuel then you will gain nothing by using a higher grade. This is a dirty little secret that the oil industry doesn’t want you to know.
